
Our Pastor
Rev. Rodney L. Duncan
Rev. Rodney L. Duncan was installed as the 11th Pastor of the Shady Grove Baptist Church on September 10, 2023. A native of Macon County, Georgia, Pastor Duncan has had a lifelong passion for spreading the Gospel through preaching and teaching.
He accepted Christ at the age of 14 and joined the Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church. After being called into the ministry in 1990, he enrolled in the Bryant Theological Seminary in Fitzgerald, GA and was licensed and ordained one year later. In 1992, he graduated with an Associate Degree in Pastoral Counseling.
Upon relocating to Macon County, GA, he joined the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Ideal, GA. Throughout his career, Pastor Duncan has held various leadership roles in Georgia Union Missionary Baptist Association in Christian Education. He has also served as pastor of several churches across Georgia.
Pastor Duncan considers it a great honor to serve as the Pastor of his home church, Shady Grove. He is passionate about traveling and spreading the Good News of the Gospel to all those who will listen.
He is married to the former Velma Doster.
Our Pastor Emeritus
Rev. David Thomas
Pastor Thomas is a native of Marion County, GA and joined the Brown Chapel CME Church as a youngster. Upon moving to Macon County, GA he joined Travelers’ Home Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for fifteen years. He was a member of the original Gospel Sons and traveled with them for years until he accepted a higher call into the ministry in 1980.
In 1981 he became our 10th Pastor and served faithfully until his health began to decline in 2023. Under his leadership, Rev. Phillip Wayne Fowler and Rev. Rodney Lamar Duncan became ordained ministers.
In reverence and honor of 41 years of dedicated and fervent service, the title Pastor Emeritus was enthusiastically bestowed upon him.
He is married to the former Lillie Fudge and to this union four children were born, two preceded them in death.
